What Is RO Water?
RO water is water that has passed through a Reverse Osmosis membrane, a specialized filter with microscopic pores that block many dissolved impurities while allowing water molecules to pass through. Modern RO systems typically combine sediment filters, activated carbon filters, the RO membrane, and often post-carbon or UV filtration to improve water quality even further. The purification process begins by removing larger particles like dust, sand, and rust. Activated carbon then helps reduce chlorine, unpleasant odors, and some organic compounds. The RO membrane is the core component, filtering many dissolved salts, heavy metals, and other contaminants. Some systems also include UV or UF stages to provide additional protection against microorganisms.
